Sunflower seeds 500g, by TARGROCH - Helianthus annuus - flowers of the sun!

Shelled sunflower seeds are one of the most beautiful cultivated and ornamental plants, with equally interesting applications and visual qualities. In Polish fields, it blooms in the middle of summer, decorating flower beds until late autumn. Sunflower seeds are extremely crunchy and nutritious. Once painstakingly peeled from hard black and white shells - today it is available peeled, in a convenient, compact form.

In color and shape, they resemble a warm, radiant sun. Apart from the typical morphological issues, they have a characteristic feature. During the day, they always turn the basket, or flower, towards the sun - that is why they are called sunflowers. Interestingly, these plants are not only decorative - their applications are very wide, thanks to which virtually none of the parts is wasted.

Sunflowers are primarily the raw material used in the production of oil, both for food and cosmetic purposes. The pomace formed during this process often becomes an ingredient of animal feed. The use was even found for inconspicuous sunflower stalks, using them in China for making paper. However, it is the seeds that seem to be the most valuable - natural and folk medicine draws from their antitussive and anti-cold properties. In turn, in the countries of the Middle East, I prepare a tincture based on them, soothing feverish states.

The wide food applications of sunflower seeds combine pleasant - taste and interesting consistency - with useful - fuel for the body. It is one of the richest sources of vitamin E - the antioxidant known as the vitamin of youth and fertility. In addition, these small, gray seeds contain a wealth of macro- and microelements, amino acids and phytosterols - helping to lower LDL cholesterol. One of the aforementioned amino acids is tryptophan, which is responsible for the production of serotonin - the happiness hormone.

Shelled sunflower seeds are a source of zinc, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron, among others. It should be eaten primarily by lovers of healthy snacks, vegetarians and gourmands - due to the high content of protein, which is a source of energy and a building material for muscles. Apart from nutritional values, the great advantage of sunflower is its low price.
